I applaud my 2nd graders for being at school everyday and on time!! Our class won for the 2nd grade classroom with the fewest number of absences or tardies for last week! Way to go students (AND PARENTS) : )

As our class approaches the end of our 2nd grade year, we are reviewing our biggest NBT math standards. 2.NBT.6, 2.NBT.7 and 2.NBT.8 have both been reviewed this week. Students learned about Jackie Robinson. #42 was an important Georgian because of his barrier-breaking accomplishments in baseball.
A very special thank you goes out to our wonderful parents for allowing students to bring Valentines for everyone in our classroom. I was SO SURPRISED by all of the sweet gifts for me!!! : ) My students REALLY know how to make a teacher feel special. Our day was filled with kind words and friendship and I could not ask for a more loving class of 2nd grade babies. Students have began whole group discussion about President Jimmy Carter. Students completed a KWL flip book for President Carter and orally compared and contrasted him with Dr. King. Students took notes on Jimmy Carter using the interactive website, PebbleGO.
Today we started the math standard 2.NBT.6. Students will be asked to show their work when solving these problems!
Students have been given both, addiction and subtraction word problems, dealing with the lengths of different objects.
Students were asked to read the problems, come up with equations, AND solve each problem. Students had the option to solve using a number line or (the ever popular) break down based on place value. Each Tuesday morning, our class goes to the computer lab to work on MyOn (reading) and XtraMath (fact practice). We try our best to still make time to have small groups for reading. Today 2 groups had the opportunity to read about one of our three Famous Georgians; Jackie Robinson.
