This week we have read chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Gooney Bird on the Map by Lois Lowry. After each chapter, students will complete an interactive chapter summary. Students have also written their own chapter summaries in their writing journals. Students have been encouraged to highlight all capital letters and punctuation marks in their personal writings, as a way to remember our writing nonnegotiables.

Students have done an EXCELLENT job turning singular (one) nouns into plural (2 or more) nouns! The most difficult part of our plurals practice is figuring out which letters to LOSE. Students are able to orally change singular nouns into plural nouns.
It's that time again… Unit Presentations! Students were split into groups and instructed to re-teach our social studies unit on GA rivers and regions. Project Requirements:

Say hello to the Attendance Winners for 2nd grade!! Our class had the lowest number of tardies and absences last week. Our prize was that we got to wear our favorite sports team shirts!
Way to go to my students for participating in our Sports Team day… But more importantly, THANK YOU to my wonderful classroom parents for making sure your babies are at school everyday! Today we continued our measuring unit in math. Students measured two different gummy worms (one stretched) in centimeters and inches. Students also had to estimate the length of the worms. My favorite part of the activity was watching students measure oh-so-carefully so that they could finish and EAT their gummy worms. : ) The pictures of the students working are PRICELESS!! In math, we have began to measure the lengths of items. Tools used to measure include; rulers, yard sticks and measuring tape. Students have learned that units of length measurements are inches and centimeters. Students completed the following performance tasks:
Today we were supposed to quickly review time and clocks… and then it CLICKED!!
…THE GIANT CLOCK!! Each student got a small clock and I pulled out the GIANT clock. Each student got a chance to set a random time on the GIANT clock… and the kids LOVED it!!! Parents:
Students recently wrote their first of two informational writing pieces. Each student was given their writing back. Corrections were made in blue ink. Students also received the county issued rubric for Informational/Explanatory writings. This week in Social Studies, students learned about Georgia's seven main rivers. Students took notes (copied from anchor charts) on each river. Students have seen AND created maps of Georgia's rivers. On the Georgia's Review Assessment, students were allowed to use their notes as a resource! Today is the 100th Day of School!!! YAAAAAY- We made it!! : ) By now, my students (and my classroom parents) know that Ms. Stocker LOVES to celebrate special days. Today students wrote about what life would be like as a 100 year old. These stories were hilarious! The students also got to see pictures of themselves "aged" and they LOVED them! Students had to turn the number 100 into a picture… These turned out so beautiful!
