I was incredibly proud of the students' effort to work as teams and their anchor charts looked marvelous!
Today we broke up into groups to explore Government Services. Groups were instructed to read one page from our Social Studies text books and report the information to the class. Each group had to work cooperatively and present an anchor chart to the class. I was incredibly proud of the students' effort to work as teams and their anchor charts looked marvelous!

Today we learned the SUPER FUN "Sid Shuffle"! The students had a ball dancing to the song and video led by everyone's favorite sloth, Sid! After we learned the dance, students applied our current ELA standard; Sequencing Events. Last week's assignments will go home Monday or Tuesday of this week. I think you'll be impressed by the work your kiddos did their first week in 2nd grade!! : ) Last Friday, the thunderstorms in Dallas knocked out the power at Poole!! I am so proud of my students. They remained calm and continued to work, even in the dark! : )
As a reward, students had the opportunity to explore the math manipulatives in our room. Way to go, my brave 2nd graders! : ) Daily 5 is a school wide reading curriculum that we started last week. Students will have 5 "daily" rotations that will include; Reading to Self, Reading to Someone, Listening to Reading, Working with Words and Writing. It will take multiple weeks to fully implement the curriculum, but we are off to a great start! Choosing books to read was one of our first lessons Be sure to ask your child about the shoes we discussed. Where would each pair be a "good fit"???
Today we read The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf by Mark Teague. My 2nd graders LOVED this story! After we read, students completed a word splash about pigs, a KWL chart about the story and their very own illustration of the book's events. Other Poole teachers were VERY impressed by our hallway display!! Way to go to my 2nd grade babies! ; ) Students were given a graphic organizer, similar to the one on the board. Students were each assigned a number and asked to fill in each box for a different representation of their given number.
Here is an example of the students' task! |
