Happy Holidays EVERYONE!!! I would like to thank all of our parents, siblings and family members who came to celebrate with us before our holiday break. It was the best day for the students and their teacher was just as happy as they were!!!
Today we learned that synonyms are two or more different words that have the same meaning. Students had the opportunity to learn about synonyms and practice note taking skills at the same time. Students included synonyms, or "alternate words" in their journal writings this week.
In addition to our review of skip counting and money math with coins, we learned how to tell time. I was impressed with my students' prior knowledge of clocks. Students shared with me that the "shorter hand is the hour hand and the longer hand was the minute hand". This is one of the coolest skills to practice in our NBI time, because each student is able to use one of our clock manipulatives. We discussed what a FORCE on an object is. Students really enjoyed this lesson, as they got a chance to PUSH and PULL objects all over the classroom. Students viewed a really cool BrainPOP Jr. video entitled Pushes and Pulls.
There are 3 states of matter; solids, liquids and gases. Students took notes and completed an item sort! After watching two BrainPOP Jr. videos, Solids, Liquids and Gases and Changing States of Matter, the students completed flip books. MY favorite part of this science unit was the students' redelivery assessment! Students were grouped and had to create anchor charts and reteach the 3 states of matter as a group. EACH group did a wonderful job teaching the class! Students have an opportunity to work with coin manipulatives during our math NBI and students have even asked to use the coins during their indoor recess!! |
